Base Salary
$167k - $231k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize secure and scalable authentication and authorization systems.
- Improve IAM capabilities including OAuth, OpenID Connect, MFA, and SSO.
- Partner with Security teams to strengthen security policies and standards against threats and unauthorized access.
- Improve the experimentation platform and lifecycle across Upstart products.
- Drive clean, maintainable, efficient code and participate in architectural discussions shaping the Identity Platform.
- Collaborate with and mentor engineers while delivering high-impact initiatives that improve access to credit.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience, plus four years of experience.
- Strong backend proficiency in Kotlin, Java, Ruby, or C# and experience building scalable APIs with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Hands-on experience with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and SAML, plus understanding of encryption, token-based authentication, and identity federation.
- Experience with AI coding tools such as Cursor or Claude Code.
- Preferred experience includes IAM platforms, security services, A/B testing, gRPC, DevOps practices, Keycloak, NextJS, and Ruby.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, performance optimization, communication, architecture, ownership, and technical-influence skills.
