Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and operation of backend services in the Payments domain.
- Own critical payment modules across architecture, delivery, observability, on-call readiness, and lifecycle management.
- Analyze workflows, customer journeys, exceptions, and edge cases to identify optimization opportunities.
- Translate stakeholder requirements into user stories, acceptance criteria, technical designs, and measurable outcomes.
- Coordinate across engineering, product, operations, risk, and compliance teams to manage dependencies and trade-offs.
- Maintain technical and functional documentation, including decision records, to support operational excellence and auditability.
- Raise engineering standards through code reviews, coaching, pragmatic standards, hiring, and onboarding.
- Own integrations with third-party systems and payment networks, including contracts, compatibility, testing, and rollout.
- Design, implement, maintain, and test software solutions for client needs.
Requirements
- Extensive experience as a backend Software Engineer owning the design and delivery of production systems.
- Strong Oracle and SQL/PL/SQL or equivalent database and data-modeling skills, with attention to correctness, performance, and operability.
- Experience leading process analysis and requirements work, including workshops, ambiguity resolution, and translating business outcomes into implementable solutions.
- Strong ownership of incident response and defect triage, with the ability to communicate impacts, options, and trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is a bonus; a master's degree is preferred.
- Experience with a product mindset and Agile teams, including backlog refinement and stakeholder alignment.
- Experience with Jira and Confluence is preferred.
- Avaloq Certification or Avaloq knowledge is preferred.
- Payments or other regulated or transactional-domain experience is a plus.
