Responsibilities
- Build backend services, APIs, and automation for Bloomberg’s Oracle DBaaS platform.
- Create self-service workflows for database configuration, patching, deployment, and lifecycle management.
- Improve Oracle observability, telemetry, alerting, high availability, and disaster recovery tooling.
- Debug production issues across application, database, and infrastructure layers.
- Partner with engineering teams on database design, performance, reliability, and production readiness.
- Help shape Bloomberg’s Dublin presence for the global Database Engineering platform team.
Requirements
- Have 4+ years of software engineering experience using Java, Python, or similar languages.
- Have experience building services, automation, or operational tooling for relational database-backed systems.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of relational database concepts.
- Have experience automating infrastructure or production workflows.
- Have strong communication skills and a relevant technical degree or equivalent experience.
- Preferred qualifications include Oracle production experience with performance tuning, execution plans, wait events, Data Guard, ASM, RMAN, backup and recovery, or patching.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with platform services, distributed systems, internal developer platforms, or DBaaS-style infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, containers, orchestration, observability, SLOs, or configuration management is preferred.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, or similar database technologies is preferred.
