Base Salary
$163k - $264k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of large or ambiguous backend projects, including milestone planning and cross-functional alignment.
- Design, implement, test, and operate scalable, secure, observable, and maintainable production services and APIs.
- Evaluate tradeoffs involving scalability, performance, reliability, security, maintainability, cost, and delivery speed.
- Identify and resolve architectural risks, performance bottlenecks, operational gaps, and technical friction.
- Improve system observability and operability through metrics, logs, traces, alerting, service-level objectives, and incident follow-through.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Support, Customer Success, and engineering teams to deliver measurable customer outcomes.
- Influence technical direction through design documents, architecture discussions, code reviews, and clear communication.
- Mentor engineers and improve technical decision-making, engineering practices, reusable patterns, and developer experiences.
- Participate in production support and incident response and turn operational lessons into lasting improvements.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience building and operating production software with meaningful customer or business impact.
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, testing, debugging, API design, and distributed systems.
- Deep experience with a backend language such as Go, Python, Rust, or an equivalent language.
- Experience designing reliable, observable, secure, and maintainable systems as usage, complexity, and ownership grow.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects with ambiguous requirements, multiple stakeholders, or cross-team dependencies.
- Sound judgment regarding architecture, technology choices, operational risk, and short- versus long-term tradeoffs.
- Ability to explain complex technical decisions and build alignment with technical and non-technical partners.
- Experience mentoring engineers and strengthening team practices through feedback, documentation, pairing, or technical leadership.
- Strong ownership of production outcomes and downstream customer impact.
- Ability to learn unfamiliar systems and navigate changing priorities collaboratively.

- Target base pay ranges by US geographic zone: $163,000-$224,070 in Zone 3, $172,600-$237,270 in Zone 2, and $191,800-$263,670 in Zone 1.
