Base Salary

$147k - $160k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications, workflows, data pipelines, and automated services for USC’s research and institutional technology environments.
  • Develop user portal functionality and other technology supporting USC’s secure computing initiative and regulated research data.
  • Translate scientific, business, operational, and technical requirements into maintainable software features and services.
  • Integrate ML/AI tools and technologies into software development workflows to improve service efficiency, effectiveness, and performance.
  • Work in HPC and cloud environments with research teams and university stakeholders.
  • Embed security standards, secure development practices, quality analysis, testing, and compliance requirements into software solutions.
  • Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, defect resolution, continuous improvement, and application reliability and performance efforts.
  • Support project planning, technology standards, process improvements, and customer-focused solutions aligned with ITS objectives.
  • Mentor and guide developers and technical peers through technical expertise, frameworks, training resources, and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, with combined experience and education accepted as a substitute for the minimum education requirement.
  • At least five years of experience in information technology, software development, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience integrating ML/AI, including LLM APIs, embeddings, and vector databases, and experience with serverless cloud architecture.
  • Proficiency with modern web programming frameworks such as React, Next.js, Angular, or Django.
  • Foundational knowledge of security concepts, secure code development, and software solution development and configuration.
  • Ability to work with large, complex systems, write test cases, and support compatibility, stability, reliability, and performance.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships across varied groups.
  • Preferred qualifications include a degree in computer science, computer information systems, or a related field and eight years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred experience includes scalable applications, workflow automation, secure software development, testing, quality assurance, troubleshooting, stakeholder collaboration, technical mentoring, and higher education or research computing.
