Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction and architecture of enterprise .NET applications across front-end, middle, and back-end tiers.
- Design, implement, scale, and optimize secure, high-performance web applications on Microsoft Azure.
- Lead architectural reviews and establish coding standards and development best practices.
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical guidance.
- Translate complex business requirements into technical designs and actionable development tasks.
- Build and maintain integrations with enterprise systems, APIs, and cloud services.
- Maintain automated development and deployment processes and support production systems.
- Perform requirements gathering, quality assurance testing, unit and integration testing, debugging, and performance analysis.
- Lead delivery, maintenance, and enhancement of critical citywide systems.
- Provide user support, application maintenance, technical documentation, and recommendations on emerging technologies.
Requirements
- Eligible candidates must be permanent employees in the civil service title of Computer Specialist (Software) or reachable on NYC exam #5056.
- A baccalaureate degree including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in computer science or a related computer field plus two years of qualifying full-time software experience is accepted.
- A four-year high school diploma or equivalent plus six years of qualifying full-time software experience is accepted.
- A satisfactory combination of education and experience may qualify, with specified college substitutions available.
- All candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of qualifying full-time software experience as a project leader or major contributor on a complex project.
- Qualifying experience includes software design, programming, debugging, maintenance, implementation, enhancement, systems programming, systems analysis and design, data communication software, or database design and programming.
- Experience in computer operations, technical support, QA, hardware installation, help desk, or end-user work does not satisfy the minimum qualifications.
- Assignment Level IV additionally requires one year of qualifying project leader or major-contributor experience in specified data, systems, capacity-planning, or online-application areas.
