
Senior Software Engineer, Content Data Products

$140k - $160k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build content data products and APIs within the New York Times publishing platform for internal data solutions and external offerings
- Own features and components from requirements gathering through design, implementation, quality assurance, deployment, and monitoring
- Use AI to process the archive and transform unstructured data into structured data
- Maintain code quality, security, and system observability
- Drive architectural excellence through code reviews, mentorship, and best practices for high-concurrency, data-intensive systems
- Architect automated testing frameworks to support service reliability at scale
- Mentor other software engineers and promote their growth
- Collaborate with product, design, engineering, project management, data science, newsroom, and external partners
Requirements
- At least five years of software engineering experience
- Fluency in backend technologies such as Go, Python, or Java and experience with SQL databases
- Experience designing and building data backend services and APIs for use by other teams
- Experience developing data feeds
- Experience with CI/CD concepts and tooling
- Experience with infrastructure orchestration and familiarity with cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS
- Understanding of application and data security best practices
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate as part of a cross-functional team
- Frontend familiarity with JavaScript and React is preferred
- Understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes, data pipelines, and data architecture is preferred
- AI/ML experience is preferred
- Experience with Content Management Systems is preferred
- Experience with metadata and tagging is preferred
- Familiarity with extracting or digitizing content from multiple sources is preferred
