Staff Software Engineer - MySQL

Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance customer-facing Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) products.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, resilient backend services.
- Own end-to-end technical solutions from architecture to production support.
- Lead the technical direction of complex engineering initiatives across teams.
- Build and operate globally distributed cloud services on Kubernetes.
- Develop backend services and APIs using Go, REST, and gRPC.
- Design reliable automation for database lifecycle management.
- Improve system scalability, availability, performance, and reliability.
- Author and review technical design documentation and architectural decisions.
- Perform code reviews and champion engineering best practices.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and provide last-line support.
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Design, and Operations teams.
- Build integrations across the DigitalOcean platform using cloud-native technologies.
- Mentor engineers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in MySQL administration and performance tuning.
- Proven experience designing and operating Database-as-a-Service platforms.
- Strong understanding of database lifecycle management and automation.
- Extensive experience developing high-performance backend systems using Go.
- Expertise in designing and developing RESTful APIs and gRPC services.
- Strong knowledge of distributed systems and cloud-native architectures.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL technologies like PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
- Strong architectural design skills for large-scale systems.
- Passion for reliability engineering and operational excellence.
- Strong debugging and performance optimization skills.
- Proven ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction.
