Responsibilities
- Build, deploy, and operate scalable, reliable, observable, performant, and secure production systems.
- Monitor services, respond to incidents, improve alerting, and implement automated alert handling.
- Build automation that reduces operational toil and improves developer experience.
- Create incident-response runbooks, write postmortems, and implement solutions that prevent recurring incidents.
- Triage infrastructure and platform issues, support Arista software engineers, and coordinate with third-party vendors.
- Design and implement infrastructure improvements that remove development workflow bottlenecks.
- Plan and communicate production maintenance windows and deploy systems in staged increments.
- Research and adopt infrastructure and platform best practices to improve scalability, fault tolerance, security, and availability.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Engineering plus five years of experience, Master of Science in Computer Science or Engineering plus five years of experience, or equivalent work experience.
- Knowledge of Go, Python, or shell scripting sufficient to implement medium-complexity automation workflows.
- Linux or UNIX administration and debugging experience.
- Hands-on experience operating infrastructure or complex software systems at scale.
- Experience with server provisioning, particularly from storage and networking perspectives.
- Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code.
- Preferred experience managing databases such as MariaDB, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
- Preferred experience with Docker, KVM, QEMU, Kata Containers, and other virtualization technologies.
- Preferred experience managing monitoring stacks, ElasticSearch clusters, Artifactory, Docker registries, CI/CD systems, version control systems, and infrastructure-as-code frameworks.
- Preferred experience managing large Java applications and storage infrastructure such as NAS, SAN, or Ceph.
