Responsibilities
- Design, implement, roll out, and operate backend services and features serving tens of millions of users.
- Build and improve backend services and microservices using sound service boundaries and data modeling.
- Participate in design reviews, explain technical trade-offs, and incorporate feedback.
- Build AI-powered features when they fit the problem and identify when they do not.
- Improve service reliability and performance, reduce technical debt, and maintain production ownership.
- Raise code quality through code reviews, tests, shared libraries, and tooling.
- Use AI agents responsibly in daily engineering workflows while verifying outputs and owning the resulting code.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional backend experience building and running production services.
- Strong proficiency in at least one general-purpose language, including Go, Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Node.js.
- Working knowledge of Go; the backend stack is heavily based on Go.
- Experience shipping AI-powered features to production.
- Experience working with at least two of PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, Kafka, and Cassandra.
- Comfort with Docker, Kubernetes, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Sound software design instincts, including service boundaries, data modeling, design patterns, and choosing simple solutions when appropriate.
- A BA or MA in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or a competitive programming background in place of a degree.
- Open source contributions or involvement in technical communities is valued.
- Ability to verify AI-agent output, delegate tasks deliberately, protect code and customer data, and take ownership of agent-written code.
