Responsibilities
- Design, develop, unit test, integrate, and maintain Java- and JavaScript-based software capabilities.
- Build and sustain full-stack functionality spanning user interfaces, backend services, API layers, messaging and integration services, and relational databases.
- Support message transformation, routing, and data exchange using XML, JSON, custom message formats, and mission-specific integration patterns.
- Perform enhancements, defect resolution, refactoring, technical debt reduction, debugging, and integration testing.
- Participate in product planning, backlog refinement, technical design discussions, code reviews, release preparation, and post-release support.
- Support Git workflows, CI/CD improvements, automated testing, static analysis, dependency review, SBOM generation, security scanning, build automation, release quality gates, and deployment support.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools for code analysis, test generation, documentation, troubleshooting, refactoring, and workflow automation.
- Investigate field-reported issues, reproduce defects, support release packaging, and improve product supportability in coordination with Mission Systems Engineering.
- Document design decisions, implementation notes, troubleshooting procedures, build and release practices, test approaches, and lessons learned.
Requirements
- At least five years of professional software engineering experience; exceptional candidates with three or more years of highly relevant full-stack, integration, or secure-systems experience may be considered.
- Strong Java development experience, including working safely with and modernizing existing Java codebases.
- JavaScript experience and preferably TypeScript, with experience in modern web UI development.
- Ability to work across the UI, API/service, integration or messaging, and database persistence layers.
- Experience with REST APIs, XML, JSON, message transformation, schema-driven data exchange, and custom message formats.
- SQL and relational database experience, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle.
- Comfort developing and troubleshooting on Linux and Windows.
- Experience with Jira, Confluence, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or equivalent issue tracking, documentation, source-control, code-review, and coordination tools.
- Git experience including branching, pull requests, code review, and disciplined commit practices.
- Experience with unit testing, integration testing, debugging, and defect resolution.
- Ability to work effectively in a mostly remote, geographically dispersed team and communicate technical work clearly.
- Desired experience includes enterprise messaging, message brokers, ESB or integration frameworks, Apache Camel, Mule, JMS, AMQP, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ/Artemis, or similar technologies.
- Desired experience includes DoD, Intelligence Community, federal, or classified software environments; DevSecOps practices; Docker or containerized development and test environments; and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with secure coding, least privilege, auditability, dependency risk, vulnerability remediation, controlled releases, ISO/QMS, configuration control, or regulated development practices is preferred.
- BA/BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience; seven years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
- Must possess an active DoD Secret clearance at hire, be a U.S. citizen, and be eligible and willing to pursue TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph after hire.
