Responsibilities
- Drive the technical direction, architecture, roadmap influence, and engineering standards for a product team.
- Write and maintain production Elixir across the stack using OTP supervision trees, GenServer patterns, and Elixir’s concurrency model.
- Architect and implement scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed, and event-driven services, data pipelines, and integrations.
- Own performance, reliability, observability, and security for the product area while working hands-on with GCP and infrastructure.
- Use AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent as a core daily development workflow.
- Identify and implement agentic workflows using shared agent infrastructure, skill libraries, and MCP integrations.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through feedback, code reviews, and design collaboration.
- Contribute to cross-team technical initiatives, design reviews, and Principal Engineering Group guidance.
Requirements
- 7+ years of total engineering experience, including 4+ years of production Elixir, Phoenix, and OTP experience.
- Proven staff-level technical leadership and experience driving technical direction for a production team.
- Experience designing and operating complex, distributed, high-throughput systems in production.
- Deep experience with event-driven architecture and event streaming platforms such as Kafka or Pub/Sub.
- Strong SQL fundamentals and production-scale PostgreSQL experience.
- Hands-on experience with GCP or an equivalent cloud platform, plus Docker and Kubernetes familiarity.
- Experience with production observability, monitoring, debugging distributed failures, and on-call operational concerns.
- Primary use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or equivalent, with independent technical judgment.
- Strong ownership, communication, collaboration, production mindset, and learning agility.
- Preferred experience includes Phoenix LiveView, distributed Erlang clusters, advanced OTP patterns, internal developer platforms, agentic AI patterns, logistics or supply chain systems, workflow orchestration tools, open-source Elixir contributions, React, TypeScript, and startup or high-growth environments.
