Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure and scalable CI/CD pipelines.
- Develop and manage infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, or similar tools across multiple environments.
- Create ephemeral feature environments and automate provisioning, routing, deployment, rollback, and teardown workflows.
- Design and implement AWS networking, hybrid connectivity, security controls, tagging, patching schedules, and governance policies.
- Support deployment of backend services and containerized applications using blue/green, canary, and rolling deployment strategies.
- Integrate unit, functional, and API testing into CI pipelines and establish reusable CI/CD, testing, tagging, and versioning conventions.
- Manage production deployments, change windows, release coordination, monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident response.
- Implement security, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, compliance, and regulatory controls.
- Optimize system performance, cloud costs, resource utilization, and deployment efficiency.
- Lead post-incident reviews, architectural reviews, retrospectives, planning sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and development teams.
- Engage directly with clients, present technical solutions, conduct training, create documentation, and contribute to pre-sales solution design and proposals.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in Cloud DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or related roles, focused on CI/CD and infrastructure automation.
- Deep proficiency with AWS services including EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, VPC, Route53, CloudFront, IAM Identity Center, CloudWatch, and X-Ray.
- Expert-level Terraform knowledge and experience with remote state management, module development, and multi-environment strategies; CloudFormation experience is beneficial.
- Strong experience with GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
- Advanced Bash or Python scripting skills.
- Extensive Docker and Kubernetes/EKS experience; Helm experience is beneficial.
- Experience with CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar observability tools.
- Strong understanding of AWS networking, load balancers, DNS, hybrid connectivity, secrets management, security scanning, vulnerability management, and compliance automation.
- Familiarity with pytest, Postman/Newman, LocalStack, and deployment strategies such as blue/green, canary, and rolling deployments.
- Experience with AWS cost optimization, tagging strategies, FinOps, configuration management, and DevSecOps practices.
- Experience mentoring engineers, leading technical initiatives, and working in consulting or professional services environments.
- AWS, Kubernetes, or other relevant professional certification required; preferred certifications include AWS Solutions Architect Professional, AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, AWS Security Specialty, CKA, or CKAD.
- Preferred experience includes GitOps with ArgoCD or Flux, serverless and event-driven architectures, disaster recovery, backup and multi-region deployments, and Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
- Matric/Grade 12 certificate and a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- South African work authorization or a valid work permit, willingness to participate in on-call rotation when required, and ability to travel occasionally for client meetings or site visits.
