Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, deployment, and operation of platform infrastructure including VPCs, compute pools, storage, Kubernetes clusters, and networking.
  • Translate configuration data into inputs for infrastructure-as-code modules supplied by Cloud Operations.
  • Own monitoring and operations for managed pub/sub messaging systems such as Kafka.
  • Design and evolve abstractions that convert high-level service infrastructure requirements into secure, highly available, production-grade deployments.
  • Operate platform infrastructure to 99.9% uptime and drive a change success rate above 95%.
  • Own infrastructure change management and build a strong post-incident learning process.
  • Partner with Cloud Operations to consume, improve, and provide operational feedback on infrastructure-as-code modules.
  • Set technical standards for code reviews, controller patterns, GitOps practices, infrastructure-as-code consumption, and operational runbooks.
  • Mentor junior engineers and establish the quality bar for infrastructure software engineering.

Requirements

  • Software or infrastructure engineering experience operating production Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on Java experience.
  • Deep Kubernetes expertise and comfort with the Linux command line.
  • Strong networking and cloud architecture knowledge, including VPCs, subnets, load balancing, security, and service mesh interaction.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform and GitOps tools such as Argo CD or Flux.
  • Production incident response experience and willingness to be on-call for critical infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of observability fundamentals including metrics, logs, and traces, plus experience consuming observability backends.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and maintaining a technical quality bar.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience with GCP; AWS or Azure experience is preferred.
  • Experience designing and operating shared services infrastructure at scale is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Kafka and the operational characteristics of pub/sub messaging systems is preferred.
  • Experience with service mesh patterns and their infrastructure implications is preferred.
