Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable gRPC and REST APIs powering core insurance services.
- Own complex microservices and larger system components from requirements and architecture through implementation, deployment, and production operations.
- Contribute to technology choices, design patterns, service boundaries, and architecture discussions.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through design reviews, pairing, and code reviews.
- Establish and enforce practices for automated testing, observability, CI/CD, and operational readiness.
- Serve as a senior escalation point for complex production incidents and drive root-cause analysis, reliability improvements, and cost/performance optimization.
- Embed security policies, coding standards, and insurance and financial-sector regulatory requirements into system designs.
- Use AI tools responsibly to improve productivity, automate repetitive work, support decisions, and improve delivery quality.
- Communicate design decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend development experience, including 5+ years working with Golang in production.
- Proven experience designing and evolving gRPC and REST APIs at scale, including complex service-level design decisions.
- Expert understanding of distributed systems, microservice architectures, event-driven design, and cloud-native patterns.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, DevOps workflows, and production troubleshooting at scale.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL, including data modeling and performance tuning, and message queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Experience mentoring engineers and driving engineering best practices across a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a focus on clean, efficient, and maintainable systems.
- Ability to structure effective AI prompts, critically validate outputs, understand AI limitations, and take responsibility for final results.
- Excellent English communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
- Experience in insurance, fintech, or broader financial services is preferred.
- Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and Jaeger is preferred.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, ideally including cost optimization, is preferred.
- Knowledge of Terraform or Helm is preferred.
- Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams or contributing to platform-level decisions is preferred.
- German language skills are a plus.
