Senior Software Engineer (Java backend, Cloud architecture)

- Design and build scalable, reliable, secure, cloud-native Java services and integrations for InsuranceNow.
- Lead integrations between InsuranceNow and third-party insurance industry systems, including APIs, events, and messaging-based systems.
- Design systems for horizontal scale, performance, resilience, observability, and operability in multi-tenant SaaS environments.
- Apply AWS and other cloud infrastructure capabilities to build robust, automated environments.
- Own CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and low-friction deployment practices.
- Use Infrastructure as Code to provision and manage cloud resources in a repeatable and auditable manner.
- Troubleshoot complex production and pre-production issues across application, infrastructure, and data layers.
- Improve secure SDLC practices in partnership with InfoSec and other stakeholders.
- Coach and mentor engineers while providing technical leadership.
Requirements
- 8+ years of overall software or infrastructure development experience, including at least 3 years building applications on cloud architectures.
- Strong hands-on Java backend development experience with object-oriented design and clean code practices.
- Experience designing distributed systems and services, ideally using microservices or event-driven architectures.
- Practical experience with a major cloud provider; AWS is preferred, with Azure or Google Cloud also valued.
- Understanding of zero-downtime deployments, blue/green or canary releases, and promotion from QA through production.
- Strong knowledge of relational and/or non-relational databases, including modeling, querying, and tuning for scale.
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation; Chef, Ansible, or Puppet experience is also acceptable.
- Experience designing systems for scale, performance, reliability, and maintainability, especially in multi-tenant SaaS environments.
- Strong logical, analytical, debugging, and problem-solving abilities across multiple technical layers.
- Experience owning and improving CI/CD pipelines and automated testing strategies.
- Ability to learn new technologies and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to mentor engineers and provide technical leadership.
- Familiarity with API design, including REST and event-based APIs, and with consuming or exposing business/application events.
- Understanding of authentication and authorization concepts such as SSO, OAuth, SAML, and role-based access control.
- Experience with enterprise-grade integrations or the P&C insurance domain is a bonus.
