Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, distributed telephony applications for Vonage’s UCaaS platform.
- Create custom FreeSWITCH modules, dialplan configurations, and ESL integrations for call control and automation.
- Implement call recording, voicemail transcription, fax processing, audio streaming, and other voice features.
- Prototype solutions rapidly and evolve them into maintainable production code.
- Evaluate telephony technologies and recommend architectural improvements.
- Deliver features through the full development lifecycle in collaboration with Product Management, QA, and Operations.
- Respond to production incidents and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and system failures.
- Mentor team members on design patterns, best practices, and telephony architecture.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of software development experience.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, or similar open-source PBX systems.
- Strong knowledge of SIP, RTP, VoIP architecture, NAT traversal, STUN, ICE, TURN, audio codecs, dialplan development, and call-flow design.
- Strong proficiency in Java, C, C++, Python, and SQL.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services including EC2, EKS, Lambda, S3, SNS, SQS, and CloudFront.
- Linux systems expertise, including performance tuning, networking, and file systems.
- Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, and MongoDB.
- Experience troubleshooting complex distributed production environments and real-time communication systems.
- Preferred experience with WebRTC, Kamailio, OpenSIPS, PSTN interconnection, carrier integrations, UCaaS or CPaaS platforms, open-source telephony projects, Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
