Responsibilities
- Lead backend planning and technical decision-making with the product manager and multidisciplinary team.
- Define team workflows, guardrails, reviews, and architecture for AI-assisted and agent-driven development.
- Own significant technical areas and remain accountable for technical quality, system health, and maintainability.
- Build and maintain Squla’s backend systems, working across frontend, data, and infrastructure when useful.
- Ship work, measure learning and business outcomes, and act on the results.
- Mentor engineers, review production-bound work, and foster engineering culture through collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Solid experience as a Senior Backend Developer building production systems.
- Strong Python experience and confidence owning technical decisions from idea through production and ongoing maintenance.
- Daily experience delegating complete tasks to coding agents, including parallel execution, and understanding their strengths and failure modes.
- Experience designing API-driven backend architectures and data models at scale, especially with relational databases such as MySQL.
- Deep understanding of software design patterns, automated testing, and clean-code practices.
- Ability to balance delivery speed with maintainability, security, and technical risk.
- Experience mentoring engineers and reviewing production-bound work.
- Comfort working from goals and ambiguity in a multidisciplinary team.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Hands-on experience with AWS or other cloud platforms is a plus.
