Responsibilities
- Own complex, loosely defined projects from initial design through production, including projects spanning multiple engineering teams.
- Build backend services, RESTful APIs, data models, integrations, and internal applications for grading and authentication operations.
- Work across containerized .NET applications, serverless APIs, Python processing jobs, event-driven systems, and frontend applications.
- Design and implement asynchronous, high-volume systems that reliably move operational data through the grading lifecycle.
- Contribute frontend features using JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and Vue.js.
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and collaborative problem solving.
- Collaborate with Product, Technology, and Operations teams to turn business requirements into extensible technical designs.
- Troubleshoot data, integration, service, and user-interface issues across a large codebase.
- Write design documents and technical decision records, and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Use AI tooling routinely while reviewing and taking responsibility for its output.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of software engineering experience building production applications, with deep backend experience and some hands-on frontend experience.
- At least 5 years of experience and strong proficiency in C# and .NET.
- Routine use of AI tooling in software design and development with sound judgment for reviewing generated output.
- Experience delivering projects with unclear initial requirements and non-obvious technical designs.
- Experience mentoring strong engineers and improving team design and development practices.
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, service integrations, asynchronous systems, event-driven systems, and distributed systems.
- Strong judgment regarding application module boundaries, service decomposition, and architectural tradeoffs.
- Experience writing and maintaining automated tests for production services.
- Strong relational database and data-modeling fundamentals, including SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
- Hands-on experience building and operating production cloud services, including container orchestration, serverless compute, API gateways, managed messaging, and managed data stores.
- Experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and a component-based frontend framework.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform or CloudFormation, and monitoring and observability tools such as CloudWatch or Datadog.
- Experience translating complex Product and Operations requirements into clean, extensible systems.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Preferred experience with AWS, Python, pytest or unittest, Apache Kafka, DynamoDB, Vue.js, high-volume workflow optimization, and close collaboration with Product and business operations teams.
