Base Salary
$147k - $224k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate software systems powering GRAIL’s automated laboratories.
- Develop laboratory workflow orchestration, LIMS, quality decision systems, and laboratory visibility tools.
- Build resilient distributed systems that interact with physical laboratory equipment and support software-only disaster recovery.
- Improve reliability, scalability, regulatory compliance, operational simplicity, operator efficiency, and laboratory throughput.
- Collaborate with laboratory operators, scientists, automation engineers, and software engineers to translate complex workflows into practical systems.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor teammates, own critical production systems, and potentially shape architecture across multiple systems and teams.
- Participate in operational ownership, including responding to production incidents and supporting on-call operations.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience designing and operating distributed systems.
- Production software development experience with one or more modern programming languages such as Python or Go.
- Experience with modern frontend development using React and TypeScript.
- Experience developing cloud-native applications on AWS.
- Experience building APIs and distributed services using REST and/or gRPC.
- Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native deployment practices.
- Strong understanding of software quality, testing, observability, and operational ownership.
- Experience with observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, and structured logging, plus on-call ownership.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Curiosity about biology, laboratory operations, and complex real-world systems is ideal.
- Experience level and demonstrated impact will determine Senior versus Staff leveling.
