Responsibilities
- Architect and build microservices using Node.js and Go.
- Develop new features and services across the microservice architecture.
- Write readable, testable, maintainable, high-quality code.
- Create data-driven and stable APIs for mobile applications.
- Design careful code architecture and development practices that support rapid releases.
- Collaborate with mobile engineers, backend engineers, and product teams to release customer-focused features.
- Mentor junior engineers and scope technical projects as part of the technical leadership responsibilities.
- Participate in and improve the agile development process through requirement documents, sprint retrospectives, and regular cadence meetings.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of experience building backend services, including at least 2 years in a technical leadership capacity.
- Experience with microservice or service-oriented architectures.
- Experience working within the Node.js ecosystem.
- Experience with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, or GraphQL.
- Experience managing AWS environments; GCP experience is a plus.
- Experience working with relational databases, message queues, or event streams.
- Financial and rewards technology industry experience is a plus.
- Experience proactively using modern AI-enhanced development tools such as Claude Code and Cursor, plus curiosity about emerging AI workflows.
- Ability to collaborate with product and engineering teams, participate in open feedback, and learn and teach in a collaborative environment.

- Hybrid schedule: Redwood City employees work in-office Mondays plus three additional days Tuesday-Friday; Chicago and New York employees work four days in-office and one day remotely.
