Responsibilities
- Lead P1/P2 production incident management, including triage, war-room coordination, mitigation, root-cause analysis, and preventive actions.
- Develop and scale microservices for payment initiation, validation, routing, settlement, reconciliation, and exception handling.
- Implement distributed in-memory data patterns with VMware GemFire/Apache Geode for low-latency state, reference data, and session/context caching.
- Build AI-assisted observability and operations capabilities such as anomaly detection, alert correlation, incident prediction, runbook automation, and GenAI-assisted triage.
- Own release quality through CI/CD gates, canary and blue-green deployment strategies, rollback automation, and low-downtime releases.
- Establish audit, regulatory, data-lineage, traceability, security, compliance, and operational-reporting controls.
- Lead adoption of authorized AI-assisted engineering tools and promote validation, secure coding, peer review, automated testing, and reusable engineering practices.
- Collaborate with product, operations, risk, compliance, partner banks, and payment processors.
Requirements
- Formal software-engineering training or certification and at least 3 years of applied experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- Strong Java 11+ and Spring Boot experience, including REST/gRPC APIs and asynchronous or event-driven design.
- Proven experience with microservices architecture and domain-driven service decomposition.
- Hands-on VMware GemFire/Apache Geode experience, including regions, partitioning, WAN replication, CQ/events, and consistency or performance tuning.
- Strong AWS experience with EKS/ECS, EC2, VPC, ALB/NLB, S3, RDS/Aurora, ElastiCache, IAM, CloudWatch, KMS, and Secrets Manager.
- Experience with containers, Kubernetes, autoscaling, health checks, service mesh, high-availability incident management, on-call operations, runbooks, SRE practices, and post-incident remediation.
- Messaging and streaming experience with Kafka, MQ, SNS/SQS, and resilient integration patterns.
- Understanding of security and compliance in financial systems, including encryption, tokenization, least privilege, and audit controls.
- Experience leading approved AI-assisted software development practices and validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
- Understanding of responsible AI use, data sensitivity, secure input/output handling, resiliency, security, and coaching engineers on safe adoption.
- Preferred: backend engineering and payment-platform experience, especially RTP or instant payments.
- Preferred: Microsoft Copilot and Claude integration and analysis for L3 day-to-day work.
- Preferred: observability experience with Datadog/Splunk/ELK, Prometheus/Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and distributed tracing.
