Responsibilities
- Lead development of a search cluster scaling to millions of documents across customers and data sources.
- Deploy learning-to-rank models using behavioral signals, embeddings, and structured feedback to improve relevance.
- Build and scale entity recognition pipelines for document understanding, contextual disambiguation, and entity-aware retrieval.
- Architect search infrastructure for dynamic document corpora and real-time indexing.
- Improve query construction, indexing, and search performance.
- Track advances in search and indexing technologies and apply data-informed innovations with product and applied research teams.
- Produce clean, scalable code and influence architecture and roadmap across the relevance and platform stack.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or another quantitative field.
- At least 7 years of backend engineering experience, including at least 3 years in search, information retrieval, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in Python.
- Hands-on experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch.
- Understanding of traditional information retrieval methods such as TF-IDF and BM25, as well as neural search techniques using vector embeddings and transformer models.
- Experience with text processing, NLP, relevance tuning, relevance evaluation metrics, and large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong communication, collaboration, analytical, problem-solving, detail-orientation, and independent-working skills.
