$175k - $205k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build secure, scalable backend microservices for connected-vehicle and fleet infrastructure, from telemetry ingestion through product-facing APIs.
- Own features end to end across data models, services, API contracts, interfaces, instrumentation, and post-launch operations.
- Build customer-facing web applications, developer and partner portals, administration consoles, and internal fleet and operations tools.
- Improve API design, database schemas, service interactions, event handling, observability, and deployment workflows.
- Contribute to shared services including the API gateway, caching, authentication, and schema migrations.
- Build maintainable integrations with external services and partner platforms.
- Establish frontend component patterns, shared UI primitives, and data-fetching conventions.
- Create fast, dense, usable interfaces for high-volume telemetry and fleet state.
- Ensure production readiness through automated testing, performance monitoring, and safe deployment practices.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience building and operating production backend services, including service-boundary judgment, API design, versioning, and backward compatibility.
- Experience with data modeling and schema design across relational and non-relational stores, live migrations, and AWS compute, storage, data, and identity services.
- Production experience with event-driven architecture using Kafka, SQS/SNS, Redis, or similar technologies.
- Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes or an equivalent orchestration platform.
- Practical experience with OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, and mTLS.
- Experience owning production systems, participating in on-call operations, debugging under pressure, addressing root causes, and applying performance and reliability practices.
- Expertise with TypeScript, Node.js, and a modern component framework, preferably React.
- Experience building data-dense interfaces involving tables, dashboards, filtering, real-time state, responsiveness, accessibility, and performance.
- Fluency with design systems and the ability to turn Figma files or written briefs into shipped interfaces.
- Testing discipline integrated into CI and demonstrated success working autonomously in a 0-to-1 environment.
- Go experience or the ability to become productive quickly in a new language is preferred.
- Experience with WebSockets, WebRTC, streaming state, multi-tenant architecture, MQTT, CoAP, device lifecycle management, telemetry pipelines, Terraform, observability tooling, large-scale data visualization, open source, or EV, automotive, or connected-device systems is preferred.

About ALSO
We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company on a mission to build the world’s best small vehicles for moving people and goods, driven and autonomous. Originally incubated within Rivian, we’re rethinking transportation from first principles to create a new generation of smaller, smarter, and more connected electric vehicles. Our team combines automotive rigor with advanced software, autonomy, sensing, and vertically integrated EV technologies to build products designed around the realities of modern mobility. We believe small vehicles are not a niche category, but a foundational shift in how people, goods, and communities will move through the world in the decades ahead. At ALSO, details matter. We’re builders, technologists, designers, and dreamers who care deeply about craft, innovation, and the everyday experiences our products create. Because movement is more than transportation—it’s connection, culture, freedom, and collective impact. We’re building that future now.
