Responsibilities
- Own and drive the multi-year security strategy for Google Compute Engine across global distributed control planes and low-level node data planes.
- Develop architectural and operational defenses against autonomous agentic threats and LLM-assisted exploitation, including automated vulnerability discovery, proactive mitigation, and incident response.
- Architect hardware-level defenses and isolation boundaries for CPU vulnerabilities, speculative and transient execution side channels, and cross-tenant leakage.
- Lead security and privilege-reduction efforts across hypervisors, virtual machine monitors, host kernels, and low-level runtimes, including sandboxing and virtualization-escape defenses.
- Set the architectural direction for host security and isolation, including host deprivileging, zero-trust host architectures, and hardware-assisted security and lifecycle functions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of professional software development experience, or 13 years with an advanced degree.
- Experience architecting, developing, and securing low-level systems software across virtualization and operating-system stacks, including hypervisors, Linux kernel internals, virtual machine monitors, firmware, or hardware-assisted virtualization.
- Preferred advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field.
- Preferred 20 years of software engineering experience and industry leadership in cloud platform security, hypervisor security, hardware or CPU security, or operating-system defense.
- Experience defending against emerging adversarial capabilities such as AI/LLM-assisted vulnerability discovery, automated exploit synthesis, and autonomous agentic threats.
- Experience providing cross-organizational technical leadership, executive communication, and consensus-building across large multidisciplinary engineering organizations.
- Expertise in hardware-software security co-design, CPU microarchitectural vulnerability mitigation, speculative execution, side-channel analysis, hardware roots of trust, vTPM, and Confidential Computing.
