Base Salary

$143k - $304k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, development, and delivery of high-throughput, multi-tenant Tier 0 services.
  • Define technical direction for complex distributed systems, including scalability, reliability, security, performance, cost, dependencies, and failure-mode tradeoffs.
  • Design and build secure, extensible, performant, and thoroughly tested software through hands-on technical leadership.
  • Establish coding patterns, observability standards, and service-health metrics that improve quality and operational efficiency.
  • Lead live-site investigations, mitigation, root-cause analysis, and post-incident improvements.
  • Identify technical risks and dependencies, drive mitigation strategies, and lead architecture, design, and code reviews.
  • Partner across engineering, product, security, and other disciplines to deliver solutions spanning multiple services and teams.
  • Mentor and develop engineers through technical guidance, feedback, and knowledge sharing.
  • Apply an AI-first mindset to product capabilities and software design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud background check.
  • Preferred: master’s degree and 8+ years of technical engineering experience, or bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred: 3+ years designing, building, shipping, and operating large-scale distributed or multi-tenant cloud services in production.
  • Preferred: 2+ years owning highly available production services, including on-call or live-site response, observability, root-cause analysis, and systemic incident improvements.
  • Preferred: 2+ years delivering cloud-native services on Azure, AWS, or GCP using containerization, microservices, and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.

Benefits

  • The typical U.S. base pay range is USD $142,800–$274,800 per year, with a separate San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area range of USD $188,000–$304,200 per year.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
  • The position will remain open for a minimum of 5 days and accept applications on an ongoing basis until filled.
