Base Salary
$120k - $261k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead work on PostgreSQL internals, including index access methods and operator classes, to develop indexing strategies for large-scale unstructured and semi-structured data.
- Extend PostgreSQL’s query engine with execution-plan analysis, BSON-aware operators, custom scan nodes, and cursor/continuation semantics.
- Design and tune index-pruning strategies while maintaining query performance.
- Collaborate with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Linux Foundation-hosted DocumentDB communities on roadmap and open-source engine features.
- Profile and analyze distributed systems to identify performance bottlenecks.
- Participate in design and code reviews and help shape coding guidelines.
- Meet Microsoft’s culture and values expectations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field and 4+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to pass Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
- Preferred experience with PostgreSQL or similar enterprise database management systems, including storage engines and high availability.
- Preferred experience building distributed systems with strong guarantees.
- Preferred 2+ years designing, developing, and shipping system-level features in large-scale cloud applications or backend distributed systems.
- Preferred 2+ years developing and maintaining high-performance libraries or software focused on concurrency, storage systems, databases, or large distributed systems.
