Responsibilities
- Explore and validate React and Next.js features, including App Router, Suspense, React Server Components, streaming SSR, and Server Components.
- Design and implement frontend architecture, component composition, state-management patterns, code splitting, bundler configuration, and design systems.
- Prototype, debug, validate, and document architectural decisions through RFCs, design documents, and decision records.
- Lead rigorous code reviews and architectural decisions while maintaining technical quality and consistency.
- Collaborate with backend and platform architects on Node.js middleware, BFF patterns, API contracts, payload efficiency, caching, error handling, and cross-cutting concerns.
- Improve developer experience by addressing slow builds, tooling gaps, local-development friction, and deployment complexity.
- Define platform standards for components, hooks, middleware, and data-fetching strategies and guide product teams in adopting them.
- Diagnose and improve bundle size, Core Web Vitals, network waterfalls, rendering performance, and platform onboarding and deployment outcomes.
- Mentor engineers, unblock product teams, and influence architecture across H&M’s global engineering organization.
Requirements
- 8–10+ years of software engineering experience building or refactoring large-scale web platforms.
- Deep production proficiency in React.js, Next.js, TypeScript, and Node.js.
- Expertise in frontend architecture, component design, state management, CSR, SSR, and hybrid rendering decisions.
- Experience building or refactoring tooling and build processes, including bundler configuration, code splitting, tree-shaking, and bundle-size analysis.
- Experience optimizing web performance across bundle size, Core Web Vitals, network waterfalls, and rendering performance.
- Experience leading or influencing architectural decisions through RFCs, design documents, or architectural decision records.
- Deep knowledge of SEO, accessibility, and performance as they affect user experience and platform quality.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern testing frameworks such as Jest or React Testing Library.
- Preferred experience with BFF patterns, middleware layers, API contracts, caching, error handling, and a cloud platform such as GCP.
- Preferred experience building AI-assisted tools or agents and shipping security-sensitive code with knowledge of backend authentication and authorization patterns.
- Strong diagnostic, communication, documentation, prototyping, code-review, and technical leadership skills.
