Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, enhancement, testing, deployment, and support of Mainframe COBOL applications.
- Own technical decisions for batch and online processing, file handling, performance tuning, and high-volume transaction workflows.
- Work with VSAM, DB2, JCL, CICS, job scheduling, sort utilities, and mainframe debugging or analysis tools.
- Lead QA activities including test case design, unit, integration, UAT coordination, regression, performance, and test automation activities.
- Troubleshoot production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive fixes in SLA-driven operations.
- Review code, enforce development and secure coding standards, and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate on release planning, version control, change management, migration, and modernization initiatives.
- Mentor junior developers, lead a small technical team, and guide estimates, technical problem-solving, and delivery ownership.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with COBOL on IBM Mainframe and good experience with JCL, VSAM, and DB2.
- Working knowledge of CICS, batch processing patterns, file processing, sort utilities, and high-volume transaction systems.
- Hands-on QA testing experience including test case design, test automation, defect tracking, functional testing, regression testing, and performance testing.
- Familiarity with mainframe tools such as Abend-AID, File-AID, ISPW, Endevor, or Changeman.
- Experience with SOAP and REST API enablement or integration with distributed systems.
- Understanding of production support, incident handling, SLA-driven operations, version control, and release or change management processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Preferred experience includes financial services or payments, VSAM-to-DB2 data migration, test automation tools, SQL optimization, performance tuning, and batch-window reduction strategies.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and tools or AI-driven code analysis, automation, and predictive analytics in mainframe environments is preferred.
- Proven ability to lead a small technical team and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
