Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, deploy, and operate production-grade generative AI capabilities and integrations for HSBC Productivity Suite.
- Write, review, and deploy production code while spending more than half of the role on hands-on engineering.
- Provide technical leadership across engineering pods, set technical direction, and solve complex engineering problems.
- Shape technical strategy and roadmaps by translating ambiguous business problems into measurable outcomes and engineering plans.
- Develop reusable capabilities, frameworks, tooling, and engineering standards, including agentic AI applications across the software development lifecycle.
- Mentor engineers through pairing, design reviews, and code reviews without formal line-management responsibility.
- Lead production support and incident response to maintain availability, performance, resilience, and scalability.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, business, and operations leaders to influence priorities through technical expertise and evidence.
Requirements
- Deep hands-on software engineering experience designing, coding, and operating user-facing products at scale.
- Advanced experience with AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code, including prototyping, coding, testing, and code review.
- Strong Python expertise and practical knowledge of APIs, microservices, databases, containers, continuous integration and delivery, and React.
- Hands-on experience taking AI, machine learning, and generative AI solutions from experimentation through secure, reliable production use.
- Strong knowledge of large language models, prompt engineering, agentic workflows, evaluation, guardrails, observability, and responsible AI.
- Experience providing technical leadership through influence, setting direction, solving complex engineering problems, and mentoring engineers as a hands-on individual contributor.
- Experience designing and operating cloud-based services on platforms such as Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to turn ambiguous business problems into measurable technical outcomes.
