Responsibilities
- Improve front-end performance for large merchant websites through paid professional-services engagements.
- Debug complex web performance issues, including INP problems, using DevTools, Synthetic, and RUM solutions.
- Provide merchants with technical direction, best-practice advice, and proofs of concept.
- Improve processes and tooling for the Web Performance professional-services practice.
- Scale learnings from merchant engagements to improve Shopify’s platform and merchant experience.
- Create thought-leadership content through blogs, writing, and speaking engagements.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and provide technical and product feedback to Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Sales teams.
Requirements
- Experience improving front-end performance on large websites.
- Expert-level experience debugging performance issues using DevTools, Synthetic, and RUM solutions.
- Ability to debug complex INP issues, including live debugging during the hiring process.
- Ability to communicate effectively with enterprise merchants and technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfort using GitHub and investigating complex performance issues.
- Ability and willingness to share knowledge through speaking engagements and blog writing.
- Preferred: React or Remix experience, Liquid or Shopify storefront experience, and contributions to open-source web performance tools or standards.
