Responsibilities
- Analyze COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2, and batch applications to understand business processes and dependencies.
- Convert and refactor COBOL code into modern Java applications, microservices, and enterprise solutions.
- Design, develop, test, deploy, integrate, and troubleshoot Java applications during modernization projects.
- Optimize converted code while maintaining business functionality, performance, data integrity, and business continuity.
- Create technical documentation, mapping documents, and conversion guidelines; conduct code reviews and follow coding standards.
- Collaborate with architects, business analysts, modernization specialists, testing teams, business users, and subject matter experts.
- Support system integration testing, user acceptance testing, production deployment, and post-migration support.
Requirements
- 5–10 years of software development experience using Java.
- At least 2 years of mainframe development experience.
- Hands-on experience with COBOL-to-Java transformation or application modernization projects.
- Experience analyzing large-scale legacy applications and translating business logic into modern architectures.
- Basic knowledge of COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2, IMS, mainframe batch processing, and z/OS.
- Experience with Java 8/11/17+, Spring Boot, and Spring Framework.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience with DevOps tools and modern engineering practices.
