Base Salary
$186k - $233k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction and make architecture and design tradeoffs for high-throughput telemetry ingest systems.
- Scope, estimate, and deliver complex multi-engineer projects from design through general availability.
- Write and ship production code while leading the engineering team.
- Evaluate and introduce tools, patterns, technologies, and appropriate LLM-assisted development practices.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical feedback, and career development.
- Communicate technical risks and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Own CI/CD, observability, operational health, and incident response for the systems led by the team.
- Identify and close gaps in tooling, documentation, and team coverage.
Requirements
- 7–10 years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading or serving as a technical lead for a team or major initiative.
- Deep fluency in Java or a comparable object-oriented programming language, with the ability to learn additional languages and frameworks.
- Experience operating stateful distributed services in production under unpredictable load and leading incident remediation.
- Experience leading architecture and design reviews for complex systems.
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD tooling such as Argo CD, event-driven architectures such as Kafka, and container orchestration such as Kubernetes.
- Experience with data modeling and query optimization for relational databases at scale.
- Demonstrated record of mentoring engineers and improving team output.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including communicating technical cases to non-technical stakeholders.
- Preferred experience with infrastructure as code across multiple environments and cloud providers, including Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Preferred experience with time-series or telemetry data and tools such as NRQL or PromQL.
- Preferred formal SRE practices, including SLOs, error budgets, capacity planning, or chaos and failure testing.
- Preferred secure-by-default design experience, OWASP familiarity, secure coding practices, or tools such as Snyk and SonarQube.
- Open source contributions are a bonus.
