Responsibilities
- Shape architecture and provide technical direction across two engineering teams and connected Transaction-domain systems.
- Design and implement scalable distributed solutions across frontend and backend while remaining hands-on in production development.
- Build customer-facing checkout experiences with React and scalable backend capabilities with Java.
- Drive architecture, performance, security, testing, observability, and reliability practices across teams.
- Create reusable technical patterns, guidelines, and platform capabilities for recurring engineering challenges.
- Lead cross-team initiatives involving Checkout, Payments, Orders, Shipping, and other dependent domains.
- Mentor engineers, facilitate architecture and design discussions, and lead through influence without formal authority.
- Partner with Product, UX, Security, SRE, and engineering leadership to connect technical decisions to customer and business impact.
- Use metrics, data, and industry trends to prioritize investments and evaluate whether to evolve existing capabilities or introduce new approaches.
Requirements
- Deep hands-on frontend engineering expertise with React and TypeScript.
- Professional backend development experience in at least one language or framework such as Node.js, Java, or Python.
- Experience working across the stack, contributing to production backend services and APIs, and owning customer-facing applications.
- Staff/Principal-level experience or equivalent technical scope, including complex system design and architectural decisions affecting multiple teams or domains.
- A strong record of leading through influence, mentoring experienced engineers, and growing other engineers.
- Ability to facilitate architecture and design discussions, introduce engineering standards, and enable teams to make independent technical decisions.
- Strong technical depth combined with business and product judgment, including data- and metrics-driven decision-making.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Product, UX, Security, SRE, and engineering stakeholders.
- Experience with checkout, payments, orders, e-commerce, or marketplace systems is a strong plus.
- Exposure to native Android/Kotlin or iOS/Swift development is valuable.
