Base Salary

$110k - $130k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Build content data products and APIs within The New York Times’ publishing platform for internal data solutions and external offerings.
  • Own features or components from requirements gathering through design, implementation, QA, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Use AI to process archival content and transform unstructured data into structured data.
  • Maintain code quality, security, and system observability.
  • Establish architectural best practices for high-concurrency, data-intensive systems.
  • Architect automated testing frameworks that support service reliability at scale.
  • Collaborate with product, design, engineering, project management, data science, newsroom, and external partners.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of software engineering experience.
  • Fluency in backend technologies such as Go, Python, or Java and SQL databases.
  • Experience designing and building data backend services and APIs for other teams to use.
  • Experience developing data feeds.
  • Experience with CI/CD concepts and tooling.
  • Experience with infrastructure orchestration and familiarity with cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS.
  • Understanding of application and data security best practices.
  • Experience collaborating as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Frontend familiarity with JavaScript and React is preferred.
  • Understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes, data pipelines, and data architecture is preferred.
  • Experience with AI/ML is preferred.
  • Experience with content management systems, metadata and tagging, and extracting or digitizing content from multiple sources is preferred.
