Base Salary
$116k - $183k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead backend development and maintain server-side logic for Mozilla ecosystem services.
- Own services end to end, including coding, deployment, production operations, monitoring, and reliability improvements.
- Maintain and improve production environments with Cloud Engineering, including monitoring and alerting using OpenTelemetry, Sentry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Participate in on-call and off-hours support rotations, triaging incidents, resolving production issues, and addressing bug reports.
- Rotate into a support role handling releases, dependency updates, and incoming requests from customer support and stakeholders.
- Design and maintain backend systems, APIs, data contracts, and integrations in collaboration with frontend and cross-functional teams.
- Participate in code reviews, security and privacy reviews, and reliability and quality improvements.
- Mentor junior engineers and drive technical excellence in code quality, testing, and process improvements.
- Apply AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully while maintaining engineering judgment.
Requirements
- 4+ years of software development experience focused on backend technologies.
- Strong professional experience with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust for building backend services and leading backend engineering projects.
- Proficiency with PostgreSQL, SQL query optimization, relational schema design, migrations, and query builders such as Knex.
- Hands-on DevOps experience with Google Cloud Platform and Docker-based build and deployment pipelines.
- Experience deploying, operating, and troubleshooting cloud services, including on-call or off-hours production support.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Sentry and Grafana.
- Strong engineering judgment, ownership, collaboration, and ability to make pragmatic quality and reliability trade-offs.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and improving code quality, testing, and engineering processes.
- Preferred experience with performance or load testing, Terraform, Kubernetes, open-source contributions or personal engineering projects, and Django.
