Responsibilities
- Implement VHAL property support, including configurations, read/write paths, subscriptions, notifications, status handling, and permission definitions.
- Maintain VHAL connectors to SocketCAN, SOME/IP, Automotive Ethernet, proprietary IPC, and companion controllers.
- Extend the Android Car Framework, vendor CarManager implementations, car-lib APIs, and AOSP reference or fake VHAL support.
- Profile performance, optimize Binder-boundary data handling, and tune subscription rates and resource usage.
- Lead root-cause analysis for defects across applications, CarService, VHAL, and vehicle buses using logs, traces, bugreports, and network captures.
- Reproduce and triage field and vehicle-fleet issues and drive fixes through OTA delivery.
- Write native, framework, VTS, and device instrumentation tests.
- Author and maintain narrowly scoped SELinux policy for owned services and resolve denials.
- Review code, enforce coding and API-compatibility standards, mentor engineers, and contribute to design reviews.
Requirements
- Minimum 7.5 years of experience in Automotive Digital Cockpit Solutions; the professional qualifications also state 8+ years total experience and 3+ years in Android platform or automotive embedded systems.
- Hands-on experience with VHAL or HAL-layer development and strong Android platform knowledge.
- Proficient-to-advanced C++ 14 or C++ 17, including STL, smart pointers, templates, multithreading, mutexes, condition variables, and the AIDL NDK backend.
- Strong Java skills and competent Kotlin skills, including coroutines, null safety, and Java-framework interoperability.
- Knowledge of Binder IPC, ServiceManager, Android system services, init and .rc files, SELinux, Android partitions, HIDL, AIDL HALs, and VINTF.
- Experience with at least one onboard network, such as CAN/CAN-FD with DBC signal decoding, LIN, or Automotive Ethernet with SOME/IP.
- Ability to interpret SOME/IP service definitions and configure a vsomeip client, including routing manager, service discovery, and endpoint configuration.
- Experience working in an AOSP tree with repo sync, Android.bp authoring, target and incremental builds, adb sync, and adb remount workflows.
- Additional experience with C++, Java, Kotlin, Rust, Python, or Bash is required or applicable.
