Responsibilities
- Assist with the design, planning, and implementation of server solutions.
- Tune and design systems infrastructure for maximum availability and performance.
- Automate manual tasks using scripting and implement automation and configuration-management tools.
- Investigate and adopt new technologies and tools, including evaluating operating system versions, drivers, and patches.
- Participate in a weekly after-hours on-call rotation and respond to production operations in a 24/7 environment.
- Support software releases, deployment procedures, installation processes, and related tooling.
- Provide technical analysis, resolve problems, perform root cause analysis, and propose solutions.
- Support and coordinate with developers, operations staff, QA, and end users.
- Provide education and mentorship to teammates and technical teams.
- Ensure streamlined application deployments across the software development lifecycle.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience in systems engineering or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience engineering operating systems, developing tools automation, or working in platform delivery or a similar role.
- Experience with server virtualization technologies such as VMware and Proxmox.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols and configuration, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and InfiniBand.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining on-premises computing ecosystems.
- Coding experience with combinations of PowerShell, Python, Bourne shell, Groovy, or similar languages.
- Experience with automation and configuration management using Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or an equivalent tool.
- Experience with Jenkins or Jenkins X, including Jenkins and agent setup, plugin management, Jenkins APIs, and Jenkins Pipelines.
- Preferred: familiarity and experience with container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and Tanzu.
