Responsibilities

  • Investigate upstream Linux security and bug fixes and identify dependencies.
  • Backport Linux kernel patches to older RPM- and Debian-based distributions and resolve version-related conflicts.
  • Build and rebuild kernel source and binary packages in reproducible environments.
  • Validate patched kernels through focused tests, build checks, and regression analysis.
  • Improve patch preparation, build, and validation workflows with Python, Go, or Shell.
  • Use agentic development tools responsibly and verify generated code, analysis, and documentation.
  • Document technical decisions and participate in code reviews with the kernel team.

Requirements

  • Strong C programming and Linux debugging skills are required.
  • Practical Linux kernel development, patching, or backporting experience is required.
  • Confident use of Git, GNU build tools, and standard Linux development utilities is required.
  • Experience building Linux kernels or distribution packages is required.
  • Automation experience with Python, Go, Shell, or a similar language is required.
  • Some experience with agentic or AI-assisted development and validating generated output is required.
  • Intermediate or higher English proficiency, written and spoken, is required.
  • Strong ownership, careful technical judgment, and the ability to explain trade-offs are required.
  • Experience with RPM/SRPM or Debian kernel packaging is preferred.
  • Security patching, CVE analysis, extended lifecycle maintenance, Docker, QEMU, Jenkins, CI systems, kernel testing, core dumps, or regression investigation experience is preferred.
