Responsibilities
- Guide engineering practices across multiple teams and establish portfolio-wide architectural direction.
- Design and guide highly scalable, reliable, and performant cloud-native applications and their automation, operational health, and deployment pipelines.
- Promote organization-wide quality standards and guide teams in defining and implementing SLOs and embedding security and data guidelines.
- Prevent production issues through robust tooling and engineering best practices, participate in on-call rotation, and help refocus projects when needed.
- Shape DevOps culture, quantify technical debt, and drive strategic technical debt reduction.
- Mentor and coach engineers across all levels, including Lead Engineers.
- Participate in interviewing and engage with the external technology community as an ambassador for Xero’s engineering brand.
Requirements
- Extensive experience leading large, complex technical initiatives through delivery on cloud-native platforms.
- Demonstrated success scaling systems for performance and reliability.
- Outstanding ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical teams and senior executive leaders.
- Experience contributing to long-term technical roadmaps and aligning engineering delivery with broader business strategy.
- Strong pragmatic problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate technical trade-offs.
- Proven ability to implement frameworks for quantifying technical debt and prioritizing remediation.
- Commitment to coaching engineers and fostering an inclusive, psychologically safe, collaborative engineering culture.
