Responsibilities

Design and build backend services and REST/WebSocket APIs for data ingestion, transformation, and delivery with attention to latency and throughput.
Own data storage and pipeline architecture, including streaming and event infrastructure integrations.
Implement authentication and authorization using the team’s selected cloud identity and access management approach.
Provide technical direction and review for React/TypeScript frontend development, including component contracts and data shapes.
Collaborate with computer vision and data science engineers to define and consume data contracts.
Lead technical decision-making for architecture, scale, latency, and maintainability in an actively developed product.
Contribute to technical leadership across the wider engineering team.

Strong production backend engineering experience with Java is required.
Demonstrated experience building low-latency, high-throughput systems is a core requirement.
Working knowledge of a modern frontend framework such as React/TypeScript sufficient to review and direct frontend work.
Experience with cloud infrastructure and event-driven architectures such as Kafka or equivalent streaming technology.
Experience designing and evolving API contracts using OpenAPI or similar.
Familiarity with modern cloud identity and access management approaches such as AWS Cognito or equivalent is a plus.
Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor or direct engineers outside the core discipline.
Comfort working with ambiguity in a build-phase product with evolving scope and infrastructure decisions.
