Responsibilities
- Design and implement new software features for augmented reality and infrared products.
- Resolve software bugs and diagnose issues in deployed units.
- Support development of next-generation AR and related products.
- Develop embedded software for microcontrollers and embedded processors.
- Read electronic schematics and debug embedded-system issues including I2C, watchdog, system exception, and USB problems.
- Potentially write Linux kernel drivers for custom peripherals and work with sensor processing, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi systems.
- Work collaboratively in small teams while also operating independently.
- Support defence and military projects and undertake occasional UK and international travel.
Requirements
- More than 5 years of C++ experience; C experience is advantageous but not an alternative.
- Proficiency with advanced C++ features including polymorphism, templates, smart pointers, threading, and the C++ STL.
- Experience with microcontrollers, particularly PIC32 or ARM-based devices.
- Ability to read and understand electronic schematic diagrams when implementing embedded software.
- A degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or an equivalent background is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Experience with Python or other scripting languages is desirable.
- Familiarity with embedded Linux, shell scripts, and terminal use is desirable.
- Familiarity with Xilinx Zynq, Microchip Polarfire, or other high-performance embedded processors and FPGA SoCs is desirable.
- Experience writing Linux kernel drivers for custom peripherals is desirable.
- Familiarity with sensor processing and fusion algorithms, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, and embedded-platform debugging is desirable.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability and comfort working independently and in small teams.
- Must be comfortable working on military and defence applications.
- Must be able to obtain required security clearance and pass at least BPSS.
- Must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application.
