Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical vision and execution for rebuilding Ford’s connected vehicle streaming foundation with a high-throughput, low-latency architecture.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Staff and Senior Staff Engineers across an 80+ person engineering organization.
  • Drive technical alignment through RFCs, architecture reviews, and Golden Path implementations.
  • Define database and time-series data modeling standards for high-cardinality vehicle telemetry.
  • Design and develop agentic AI workflows that answer natural-language data questions and generate real-time insights.
  • Use applied AI and machine learning for data pruning, anomaly detection, compute allocation, intelligent ingestion, metadata tagging, and self-healing pipelines.
  • Lead cloud architecture and cost optimization strategies that improve reliability, performance, and total cost of ownership.
  • Prototype difficult architectural components and solve complex technical bottlenecks hands-on.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field is required; a Master’s or PhD in a highly technical field is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of professional software and data engineering experience is required.
  • Proven experience architecting large-scale, petabyte-scale streaming and distributed systems.
  • Experience as a Staff or Senior Staff Engineer, or equivalent, providing technical leadership for organizations of 50–100+ engineers.
  • Expertise in relational, NoSQL, and time-series database modeling, including high-frequency sensor data, windowing, and compaction.
  • Deep hands-on applied AI experience, including agentic workflows and LLM-based data exploration and insight generation.
  • Expert proficiency with Google Cloud Platform, including BigQuery, Dataflow, and Vertex AI.
  • Mastery of Kafka or Pub/Sub for high-throughput messaging.
  • Experience driving architecture redesigns for efficiency, cost reduction, and performance optimization in cloud-native environments.
  • Mastery of SDLC, MLOps, and LLMOps, with the ability to establish standards for testing, observability, and deployment of AI-integrated data systems.
