Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable software solutions for critical business and student-facing capabilities.
- Translate business, functional, and non-functional requirements into maintainable software.
- Influence architecture, technical strategy, design patterns, security practices, and fault-tolerant system design.
- Improve application performance, reliability, scalability, observability, and operational efficiency.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, and scalability concerns and propose practical solutions.
- Mentor and coach engineers through design reviews, pair programming, architecture discussions, and code reviews.
- Document systems and share knowledge through technical presentations and engineering best practices.
- Design and operate reliable cloud-native systems in partnership with DevOps and Operations teams.
- Lead root cause analysis and support recovery during production incidents.
- Drive automation, quality-focused development, developer productivity, platform health, and engineering process improvements.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to team effectiveness and technical capability growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals in system design, algorithms, software architecture, testing, security, and distributed systems.
- Experience building and supporting web applications, APIs, enterprise software solutions, RESTful services, and service-oriented architectures.
- Proficiency in Java or another modern object-oriented programming language.
- Experience with Python, JavaScript services, databases, third-party integrations, and systems integration.
- Demonstrated success delivering production software from design through deployment and support.
- Experience designing and operating applications in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
- Knowledge of scalability, resiliency, observability, performance optimization, and data-driven engineering.
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction without relying on authority.
- Preferred: master’s degree in a related field; legacy application and architecture modernization; Python; JavaScript; Nest.js; SQL; ServiceNow; Git; Jira; EDA; Confluent, Kafka, or Pulsar; Backend-for-Frontend patterns; Mesh of Mesh; Spec Driven Development with Kiro; Behavior Driven Development; enterprise and legacy platform integration; Agile/Scrum; AWS cloud-native development and migration; and relevant technical certifications.
