- Develop safe public-API evolution strategies including backward compatibility, versioning, deprecation, and contract testing.
- Lead ambiguous technical problems end-to-end through solution design, trade-off analysis, sequencing, and delivery.
- Deliver engine features for process suspension, resumption, and AI-agent control of running processes.
- Improve resiliency, schema evolution, observability, replay safety, migration correctness, and production diagnosability.
- Identify and optimize inefficient processing and data-access patterns across RocksDB, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and PostgreSQL.
- Review code, mentor engineers, lead technical discussions, participate in on-call rotations, drive incident resolution, and own root-cause analyses.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional backend engineering experience with substantial depth in distributed and event-driven systems.
- Deep knowledge of event sourcing and distributed execution, including consistency, ordering, replay, partitions, crashes, duplicate or reordered delivery, idempotency, and recovery.
- Strong API design and evolution experience, including contract-first design, backward-compatible changes, versioning, deprecation, and contract testing.
- Experience diagnosing and fixing performance issues under production load, including profiling, benchmarking, tail-latency analysis, and backpressure reasoning.
- Ability to lead ambiguous technical work autonomously, make pragmatic decisions, communicate clearly, and mentor other engineers.
- Strong technical writing, remote-first collaboration, product sense, and ownership.
- Willingness and ability to use the Camunda product.
- Nice-to-have experience with workflow automation or process orchestration, BPMN, consensus or replication protocols such as Raft and SWIM, query-pattern optimization, and JVM memory, concurrency, and performance.
Benefits
- Fully remote and globally distributed work with flexible scheduling, a home office budget, coworking support, and flexible time off.
- Annual kickoff, team offsites, connection budgets, meetup support, and local gatherings.
