Base Salary
$130k - $150k/yr
Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and implement Java and Spring Boot microservices across the platform.
- Define target-state architecture, service boundaries, upgrade paths, and supporting technical documentation.
- Decompose legacy PHP/Symfony monolith functionality into independently deployable Java services.
- Design AWS-native solutions using ECS/Fargate, SQS, SNS, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, and Parameter Store.
- Build secure REST APIs with validation, error handling, authentication, and authorization.
- Lead identity modernization involving OAuth2/OIDC and migration from LDAP to Okta.
- Design and optimize JPA/Hibernate data access layers, schemas, indexes, and queries.
- Establish standards for testing, CI/CD, observability, logging, and alerting.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.
- Lead technical planning and execution of complex multi-sprint initiatives and resolve production issues.
- Maintain compliance with SOX and HIPAA requirements in a regulated healthcare environment.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong backend focus.
- Expert-level Java and Spring Boot proficiency with deep distributed-systems experience.
- Demonstrated experience decomposing monolithic applications into microservices.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services including ECS/Fargate, SQS, SNS, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, and IAM.
- Strong knowledge of REST API design, authentication and authorization patterns, and enterprise integration.
- Strong relational database experience with MySQL or Aurora and ORM frameworks such as Hibernate/JPA, including query tuning.
- Proficiency with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native delivery practices.
- Ability to lead technical direction and mentor engineers across experience levels.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and architectural decision-making skills.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, healthcare or regulated-environment experience, Okta or comparable identity-provider experience, PHP/Symfony knowledge, and Kubernetes or Terraform experience.
