Responsibilities
- Identify and pursue emerging AI research and techniques for Fivetran AI's roadmap.
- Prototype new ideas and turn successful ones into production-grade features.
- Define technical direction across Fivetran AI and collaborating departments.
- Build and maintain back-end and front-end systems for the Fivetran AI product.
- Set the long-term technical vision for capabilities like AISQL.
- Take ownership of production reliability and incident response.
- Set engineering quality standards and perform hands-on work when necessary.
- Use coding agents to automate repetitive tasks.
- Define priorities and roadmap with minimal oversight.
- Mentor staff and senior engineers, influencing technical decisions.
- Represent Fivetran AI in cross-department planning discussions.
- Contribute to the hiring process and shape interview strategies.
Requirements
- 10+ years of programming experience in Python and/or Java.
- Ability to influence and shape direction across departments.
- Comfortable reading AI/ML research and turning findings into prototypes.
- Deep product and market awareness to judge emerging techniques.
- Track record of defining and executing independent direction.
- Experience with SQL and data warehouses like BigQuery or Snowflake.
- Willingness to work across the full stack as needed.
- Ability to write well-structured, performant code.
- Experience using coding agents to enhance engineering work.
- Demonstrated mentoring ability for senior engineers.
- Thrives in a startup-like environment with shifting priorities.
