Responsibilities

  • Lead technical teams and define technical strategy and architecture for multiple services.
  • Design and develop new features while supporting run-and-maintain activities across the service portfolio.
  • Contribute hands-on coding throughout the full software development lifecycle.
  • Drive quality assurance, code reviews, best practices, and process optimisation across multiple services.
  • Lead projects from analysis and design through implementation and QA, managing technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Translate customer requirements into technical designs and balance technical, user, and business needs.
  • Collaborate across Product, UCD, Delivery, and other multidisciplinary teams.
  • Mentor and coach developers and foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
  • Champion user-centred development and ensure research and design are prioritised.
  • Present technical information to non-technical audiences and travel to UK client sites when required.

Requirements

  • Experience leading technical teams and defining technical strategy and architecture for multiple services.
  • Full-stack or backend technical background with experience in Python and TypeScript or similar technologies.
  • Experience with AWS or Azure cloud infrastructure and Terraform infrastructure as code.
  • Experience delivering UK Government digital services and understanding the GDS/NHS Service Standard and assessment process.
  • Strong collaborative leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and prioritisation skills.
  • Proven experience driving quality assurance, code reviews, process optimisation, and full lifecycle delivery.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching developers and leading projects from start to finish.
  • Desirable: experience in multidisciplinary product teams, accessibility and inclusive design including WCAG standards, complex organisations or programmes, and building collaborative engineering cultures.
  • Must be willing to travel to client sites anywhere in the UK when needed and have the right to work in the UK.
