Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, deploy, and support complex features across the Cards API and enterprise integration estate.
  • Develop secure enterprise-grade Java and Spring Boot services and RESTful API contracts using appropriate authentication, error handling, data mapping, and integration patterns.
  • Embed automated testing, secure coding, observability, reliability, and operational readiness into delivery.
  • Identify technical risks, contribute to incident resolution and root-cause analysis, and improve services using production learnings.
  • Solve complex and ambiguous technical problems, evaluate trade-offs, and propose solutions aligned with architecture standards and Cards and Merchant system needs.
  • Collaborate with product, architecture, engineering, testing, platform, and security stakeholders.
  • Review code and designs, mentor developers through pairing and feedback, and share technical knowledge.
  • Use AI tools to support analysis, development, testing, documentation, problem-solving, and process improvement.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant professional engineering experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot/Spring for enterprise API and integration services.
  • Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs, including contracts, specifications, payloads, data mapping, authentication, and error handling.
  • Experience securing REST and JWT integrations through Kong and understanding gateway-based integration.
  • Proficiency with Gradle and Docker, with services deployed and run on OpenShift and EKS/Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with Bitbucket, Jenkins, and Spinnaker for source control, build, and deployment pipelines.
  • Experience with HashiCorp Vault for secure management of API keys, passwords, and other secrets.
  • Experience with IBM MQ using JSON over MQ and/or Kafka for messaging and event-driven integration.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL Aurora for data persistence.
  • Experience with JUnit, REST Assured, and TestNG for unit, API, and integration testing.
  • Comfort working in a modern Java IDE.
  • Banking, payments, cards, merchants, regulated-environment, or card and merchant data-flow experience is beneficial.
  • Ability to provide hands-on technical leadership, own services end to end, make pragmatic decisions under ambiguity, manage quality and risk, mentor others, collaborate clearly, and drive continuous improvement.
