Responsibilities
- Lead backend architecture, implementation, and operational maintenance for scalable identity lifecycle management features and microservices.
- Drive technical initiatives across backend platform workstreams in collaboration with product managers, architects, and engineering teams.
- Design and build high-throughput, low-latency REST and gRPC APIs, asynchronous messaging pipelines, and backend infrastructure.
- Partner with Product Development, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering teams to scope, test, and deploy backend services at scale.
- Promote robust testing, observability, monitoring, operational readiness, and engineering best practices.
- Mentor Senior and Staff engineers and provide technical sponsorship for strategic initiatives.
Requirements
- 12+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong backend concentration.
- Expertise in Java and modern backend frameworks such as Spring Boot and Hibernate.
- Experience designing, building, and operating scalable backend services and microservices in cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Deep understanding of caching, stream processing, resilient architectures, asynchronous messaging, and distributed systems.
- Experience with relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL and data modeling for high-scale systems.
- Strong knowledge of computer science principles, design patterns, object-oriented design, and secure architecture.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across distributed teams.
- Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred experience with IAM protocols and standards including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, and SCIM; threat modeling; security engineering; secure API design; Docker; and Kubernetes.
